This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) to remove moderated
newsgroup comp.unix.bsd.netbsd.announce.

RATIONALE:

Chris Demetriou replied to a probe post and took the issue to the board
of the NetBSD Foundation. Matthias Scheler, on behalf of the board of
directors, says that they are no longer using the group and suggests
that it is removed.

CHARTER OF COMP.UNIX.BSD.NETBSD.ANNOUNCE

        This newsgroup is for announcements relating to the NetBSD
        operating system. Things appropriate for the .announce group
        would include announcements of new versions of NetBSD,
        announcements of major software releases (both commercial and
        freely redistributable) for NetBSD (e.g. new version of X11 for
        NetBSD), announcements of fixes for major bugs, and the like.
        FAQs relating to NetBSD should also be cross-posted to this group.

HISTORY OF THE GROUP:

comp.unix.bsd.netbsd.announce is a moderated newsgroup which passed its vote
for creation by 332:70 as reported in news.announce.newgroups on 22 Feb 1995.

PROCEDURE:

Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should
subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads
in that newsgroup.

To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to
news.groups.proposals.

In the course of the removal process four formal announcements are posted
(MVI, 1st RFD, 2nd RFD, and LCC), each taking two weeks. At the end of the
process the B8MB will vote on the issue.

Available options for comp.unix.bsd.netbsd.announce are:
- leave the group as it is
- remove the group
