SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION:

The proponent of this proposal has kept a record of those who have
posted on news.groups.proposals regarding their support or opposition
to the creation of this newsgroup. As of this writing, the results are
as follows:

  Support, Will Read 10
  Support 11
  Support, Will Not Read 0
  Opposed 6

Accordingly, the proposal for the creation of rec.arts.sf.tv.jericho has
received more support than opposition.

A few issues were raised and discussed following the first RFD:

  - Jericho is a fairly new television series, with one full season aired
and seven new episodes being filmed.

The proponent would like to add that, even though the series is young, the
viewers has already collaborated with CBS in order to give the green light
to film new episodes. The Jericho fan base is very passionate and will
certainly continue to encourage people to watch the current and new
episodes. Having another venue can only help for this purpose.

  - There are only a few television shows that have rec.* groups, and
Jericho discussion would fit into either rec.arts.tv or rec.arts.sf.tv.

The proponent acknowledges these precedents, but feels that discussion
would best fit into its own group. Experience with alt.tv.* shows that
groups such as this can (and have) succeed.

  - There is a question as to whether a Jericho newsgroup would have global
    interest, as opposed to US-only.

Since Jericho was played in many countries I do not think finding supporters
outside the USA will be a problem.

RATIONALE: rec.arts.sf.tv.jericho

The television show "Jericho" was cancelled by CBS in May 2007. After a very
big grassroots effort to get the show back by very dedicated fans CBS finally
decided to greenlight a second season (seven episodes) with the possibility
of more. The fans have been very passionate about the show; thus the fanbase
is very dedicated.

If created, this newsgroup would allow current and future fans an official
Usenet newsgroup to discuss the television show "Jericho". CBS has asked
the dedicated fans to spread the word about the show and I believe this
newsgroup would be the perfect place to do that.
