                      REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
                remove rec.games.trading-cards.announce

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce.

RATIONALE: remove rec.games.trading-cards.announce

The newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce has not had any
approved messages since July 1998.

A month earlier, the moderator posted an article titled:
'[admin][important] The future of this group', stating that:

"This group isn't working... I know that. The question is what to do
about it.".

He said that he didn't have the time to moderate the group, and
requested anyone who wanted to replace him as moderator to contact
him. He mentioned that official submissions from game producers had
"just about hit zero of late".

As an announcement group, it would not be appropriate to convert the
group to an unmoderated status.

HISTORY:

The newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce was created in December
1994 as part of the re-organization of the rec.games.deckmaster.*
sub-hierarchy. As part of this re-organization, the 2 existing groups
in the rec.games.deckmaster.* hierarchy, along with 5 new groups were
placed in a newly established rec.games.trading-cards.* (RGTC)
hierarchy.

The new groups were RGTC.announce, RGTC.jyhad, RGTC.magic.rules,
RGTC.magic.strategy, and RGTC.magic.misc. The renamed groups were
RGTC.misc and RGTC.marketplace, renamed from rec.games.deckmaster and
rec.games.deckmaster.marketplace, respectively.

Approvals in RGTC.announce were roughly 3 to 4 per week from December
1994 to July 1998. There have been no approvals in the 8-1/2 years
since then.

Historical Footnote: In the CFV, the creation of the new groups was
handled independently from the hierarchy renaming. Voters were first
asked to approve creation of rec.games.deckmaster.announce, etc.; and
then as a second ballot item asked to vote on renaming
rec.games.deckmaster.* to rec.games.trading-cards.*

CHARTER:

The newsgroup line is:

|rec.games.trading-cards.announce	Important news about trading card games.

The charter extracted from the CFV:

This group is for various important announcements regarding trading
card games. Topics include product announcements from game
manufacturers (Wizards of the Coast, TSR, etc.), information on
tournaments and gaming conventions, final versions of expansion card
lists (possibly along with one or two early versions, at the
discretion of the moderator), and other similar items.
...
Announcements of sales, auctions, or trades of cards are not permitted
in this group, as they belong in the newsgroup
rec.games.?.marketplace.

PROCEDURE:
