RESULT
misc.news.internet.announce will be removed
The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 11 Dec 2006 initiated a five-day
period for final comments. Following the comment period, the Big-8
Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup
misc.news.internet.announce.
This group will be removed on 15 Jan 2007.
RATIONALE: remove misc.news.internet.announce
The newsgroup has not had any approvals since September 1997. The
group was active for less than 2 years (November 1995 to September
1997). There were roughly 80% fewer approvals in the last 12 months
than in the first 12 months.
It is unlikely that a revival as a moderated group could fulfill its
charter as a source of information for the conventional media about
the Internet.
The removal of misc.news.internet.announce would have NO effect on
misc.news.internet.discuss.
HISTORY:
The newsgroup misc.news.internet.announce was created in November
1995, along with the companion group misc.news.internet.discuss.
A proposal to create a moderated misc.news.internet.media-stories and
to convert misc.news.internet.discuss to a moderated status failed in
June 1996 with less than 100 Yes votes each.
