RATIONALE: remove comp.sys.mac.games.announce

comp.sys.mac.games.announce was always a low volume group, but then all
approvals ceased for two years. I contacted Christina Schulman,
proponent for the comp.sys.mac.games.* reorganization and moderator at
that time, and she agreed to turn moderation over to me. Since I took
over moderation in December 2001 there have been fewer than 10
acceptable submissions in the best month, and many months there are no
submissions. Christina Schulman agrees that since the group is not being
used it should be removed cleanly and noted that most Mac game
announcements are probably being made via RSS feeds rather than through
newsgroups. Users would be better served to post their announcements to
whichever of the following is most appropriate to the announcement:

  comp.sys.mac.games.action
  comp.sys.mac.games.adventure
  comp.sys.mac.games.flight-sim
  comp.sys.mac.games.marketplace
  comp.sys.mac.games.misc
  comp.sys.mac.games.strategic

HISTORY:

The comp.sys.mac.games.* groups were created after passing their vote,
with the RESULT posted on 2 May 1995. csmg.announce was fairly active
for the first 5 years, with an average of approximately 10 posts per
month. From approximately Jan 2000 until December 2001, no posts were
approved and the group never again picked up steam when active
moderation resumed. Over the past couple of years, almost all of the
mail to the submission address has been email spam unrelated to Mac
games.

DISTRIBUTION:

This document has been posted to the following newsgroups:

  news.announce.newgroups
  news.groups.proposals
  comp.sys.mac.games.announce
  comp.sys.mac.games.misc

The proponent will also post pointers to:

  comp.sys.mac.games.action
  comp.sys.mac.games.adventure
  comp.sys.mac.games.flight-sim
  comp.sys.mac.games.marketplace
  comp.sys.mac.games.strategic

CHARTER:

The newsgroup line is:

comp.sys.mac.games.announce Announcements for Mac gamers. (Moderated)

comp.sys.mac.games.announce was created in a reorganization of the
old comp.sys.mac.games. The charter for comp.sys.mac.games.announce was:

NEW GROUP: comp.sys.mac.games.announce

This moderated group is for informative posts of general
interest to the Mac gaming community. Examples include announcements of
new game releases, new ftp sites, game reviews, and FAQ's. Followups
will be redirected to csmg.misc (should it pass) or another appropriate
subgroup at the moderator's discretion.

The moderator will be Mathew Mills, mills@csus.edu. The
alternate moderator in case of vacation or periods of heavy traffic (the
Marathon release, for example) will be Christina Schulman,
schulman+@pitt.edu. Several backup moderators are also available. The
submission address will be csmga@csus.edu.

PROPONENT:

Kathy Morgan <kmorgan@aptalaska.net> - Current Moderator, csmg.announce
