This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for the creation of the
unmoderated newsgroup comp.compilers.hla

NEWSGROUPS LINE:
comp.compilers.hla ISA/opcodes to SEH, OOP, CTL, stdlib

RATIONALE:

This newsgroup is meant for the discussion and mutual support of the
High Level Assembly (the language, assembler, and standard library)
as developed by Randall Hyde. Though Randy's implementation is
not the first or only high-level assembler, it has become iconic due to
his persistent promotion, the commercial (and otherwise) uses that he
and others applied it to, and the task that it served (teaching low-level
concepts to students coming from a high-level background*).

Another reason for a new group is to provide a commons for all efforts
approaching a Von Neumann Architecture idiom. The current Century is
saturated with a "glossy brochure" potential in faster hardware {i.e.,
mobile computing, modified Harvard Arch, fiber optics, SSD, arduino};
connected usage {i.e., social networking, WAH, SOHO, SAS}; and fad
development methodologies {i.e., FP, HTML5, parallel computing}. Either
in spite of or because of this context, Von Neumann Arch continues its
vital role in advanced research, development, and academia. Sustainable
benefit of this group is self-evident when seasoned coders quest for a
way to visualize ISA processes upholding the "big picture" from script,
interpret/compile, to execute and systems level.

*It is noteworthy to recognize that Randy's "Art of Assembly Language"
[2nd Edition] happens to be one of a small number of {modern} University
texts on the subject.

CHARTER:

The unmoderated newsgroup 'comp.compilers.hla' will be open to
discussions on all topics related to High Level Assembly Language;
associated theory, tools, processes, and results; and the general
consideration of the Von Neumann Architecture Machine as a central
idiom in Computer Science.

Appropriate topics would include, but not be limited to:
Assembly language code tips, tricks, and techniques.
Structured Exception Handling, Namespaces, Data Typing, Macros,
Compile-Time Language (CTL), Classes and Objects (OOP),
Standard Library (stdlib), Parameter Passing, Multi-Precision Arithmetic,
Linking, Lexical Analysis, Parsing, Code Optimization, etc.
Any related languages and technologies such as Forth, Scheme, LLVM,
JIT, AOT, CIL, etc.

Posters are expected to abide by normal Usenet standards of decorum,
and to ignore articles intended to disrupt the group. Those who are
