REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group rec.arts.tv.x-factor

This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for the creation of the
unmoderated newsgroup rec.arts.tv.x-factor.

NEWSGROUPS LINE:
rec.arts.tv.x-factor - the world's top rated reality show from Simon
Cowell.

RATIONALE:

Discussion of the X-Factor TV show has been growing on Usenet. With
the planned September debut of the show in the US, fans are requesting
a newsgroup dedicated to the show.

The "X-Factor" is the world's most popular and highest rated
reality/talent TV show. Over two dozen countries have their own
individual versions. The U.S. version that debuts in late September
2011 is expected by most television experts to be the highest rated
show of the new television season, as it is in almost every other
country where it is shown. The "X-Factor" was conceived by, and
stars, Simon Cowell. He is famous for being a judge on programs such
as: "Britain's Got Talent," "American Idol," "America's Got Talent,"
and other shows. It is best described as a combination of "American
Idol," "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent" but for singers only.
Each of its four judges also act as a specific member to their
individual teams that are made up of specific demographics. One judge
has men up to a certain age, one has women up to a certain age, one
has groups and the other has everyone over a specific age. There is
no age limit for participants, unlike other shows and the prize for
winning is a recording contract and $5,000,000.00. Further
information about the worldwide "X-Factor," franchise, brand and how
it "works" may be found at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X_Factor_%28TV_series%29 .

CHARTER:

This newsgroup is for discussion of the television show "X-Factor."

It is not restricted to the discussion of any nation's specific
X-Factor, in the anticipation that this will spur additional interest
and communication worldwide about a show that has re-defined reality
television. Most likely however, discussions will focus on the
versions from: the United States, Great Britain and Australia. The
U.S version will also be shown in many countries concurrent with its
showing in the U.S.

Posters are expected to abide by normal Usenet standards of decorum,
and to ignore articles intended to disrupt the group. The usual
suspects are prohibited (spam, binaries, direct advertising, etc.)

PROCEDURE:

For more information on the newsgroup creation process, please see:

http:''www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:creation

Those who wish to influence the development of this RFD and its final
resolution should subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate
in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. This is both a courtesy to
groups in which discussion of creating a new group is off-topic as
well as the best method of making sure that one's comments or
criticisms are heard.

All discussion of active proposals should be posted to
news.groups.proposals

To this end, the follow-up header of this RFD has been set to
news.groups.proposals.

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the
discussion may be cross posted to those groups, but care must be taken
to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as
well.

We urge those who would like to read or post in the proposed newsgroup
to make a comment to that effect in this thread; we ask proponents to
keep a list of such positive posts with the relevant message ID:

Barney Fife, <4jgdnb60fsmzha7znz2dnuvz_rwdnz2d@sysmatrix.net>)

Such lists of positive feedback for the proposal may constitute good
evidence that the group will be well-used if it is created.

DISTRIBUTION:

This document has been posted to the following newsgroups:
