              MODERATOR VACANCY INVESTIGATION (MVI)

              moderated group misc.industry.insurance



This is a formal Moderator Vacancy Investigation (MVI), begun because

moderated newsgroup misc.industry.insurance is not functioning,

and may have been abandoned by its moderator(s).



This investigation will attempt to verify the reasons for non-function,

and may result in the removal of the group or the selection and instal-

lation of a new moderator.  In practice, the Big-8 Management Board

considers the third alternative--changing the status of the group from

moderated to unmoderated--as likely to cause more harm than good.

CHARTER OF MISC.INDUSTRY.INSURANCE



The scope of the proposed group misc.industry.insurance should

cover basically all insurance related issues which could include,

but are not limited to the following:



 * underwriting

 * actuarial

 * claims

 * information technology in insurance

 * broking

 * reinsurance



It is hoped that the group would lean towards the discussion

of general day-to-day business and away from, for example,

protracted discussions on the finer details of a particular

actuarial equation.  Moderation would only cut in when the

subject no longer relates directly to insurance though.  As

well as being a forum to discuss specific issues, this group

will also act as an arena in which to simply make contact with

other insurance professionals.  The moderation for this group

will exist *solely* to filter out the totally off-topic posts,

and will not judge on insurance related content.



HISTORY OF THE GROUP:



misc.industry.insurance is a moderated newsgroup which passed its vote for

creation by 147:24 as reported in news.announce.newgroups on 3 Jan 1996.
