                      REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)

                     remove rec.sport.cricket.info



This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated

newsgroup rec.sport.cricket.info.





RATIONALE: remove rec.sport.cricket.info



The last approved message was in June 1999.  In September 2002, there

was discussion about reactivation of the group, but nothing came of

it.  Since the 1990's widespread access to the internet and WWW may

have made the group obsolete.



Alternatives include:



(1) Assignment of a new moderator.



(2) Removal of the newsgroup.



(3) Since the group was intended as a quality cricket information

service, with any follow on discussion happening in the unmoderated

rec.sport.cricket, it would not make sense to convert

rec.sport.cricket.info into an unmoderated group.





HISTORY:



The newsgroup rec.sport.cricket.info was created in July 1994 a

replacement for the group rec.sport.cricket.scores which had been

created in January 1992.  Approvals were moderately heavy with roughly

5 articles per day.  There were outages from August 1997 to October

1997, and from November 1998 to December 1998.  The last approval was

in June 1999.  In September 2002, there was discussion about possible

reactivation of the group, but nothing came of it.





CHARTER:



The newsgroup line is:



rec.sport.cricket.info	News, scores and info related to cricket.



The charter (extracted from the CFV):



Purpose:



To provide a quality cricket information service for a general

audience on USENET.



Content:



i)    Completed scorecards of one day matches

ii)   End of day scorecards of test matches and first class matches.

iii)  Brief scores and/or scorecards of any other level of matches

      available.

iv)   Combined scorecard and match reports of any of the above matches

(i) - (iii)

v)    Match reports alone for any of the above matches (i) - (iii)

vi)   Statistical data on individuals and/or teams

vii)  Cricket related articles, news, profiles, facts on players.

viii) Schedule of the matches to be played in a season/tour or

      tournament.

ix)   Book reviews of cricket related books and extracts.

x)    Any other information related to cricket that may not fall under

any of the above but useful to the general audience in the

      opinion of the moderator.

subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion

may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
