REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
remove comp.std.lisp

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup comp.std.lisp.

PROCEDURE:

The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please
offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting
period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted
following the end of the voting period.

All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.proposals.

The full group removal procedure is documented here:

SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION:

No comments were received.

RATIONALE: remove comp.std.lisp

The newsgroup comp.std.lisp has not had any approved messages since
April 1998, with the next prior approval in February 1996. In its
entire active period from January 1994 to April 1998 it only had 53
approved articles, with 90% posted in the first year, and 50% in the
first two months of existence.

Discussion of the programming language Lisp, including standardization
efforts may be discussed in the unmoderated group comp.lang.lisp.
Activities of the Association of Lisp Users (ALU) may be discussed in
the unmoderated newsgroup comp.org.lisp-users. The ALU also maintains
a web site at http://www.lisp.org/alu/home.

HISTORY:

The moderated newsgroup comp.std.lisp and the unmoderated newsgroup
comp.org.lisp-users were created in January 1994. After a short early
flurry of activity, it was often several months between approvals. The
last approval was in April 1998, roughly 9 years ago.

DISTRIBUTION:

This document has been posted to the following newsgroups:

news.announce.newgroups
news.groups.proposals
comp.std.lisp
comp.lang.lisp
comp.org.lisp-users

CHARTER:

The newsgroup line is:

comp.std.lisp User group (ALU) supported standards.

The charter extracted from the CFV:

This moderated group is intended to foster focused discussion on
user-group supported standards that are beyond the scope of more
formal standards e.g. that are not addressed in the (almost final)
ANSI Common Lisp. It will be moderated for appropriateness to the
group and timeliness, and not for technical content; the moderator
will periodically post the status of all ALU standard proposals, open
and close discussions on new standards, and call for specific
technical experts to take charge of each standard (for surveying
existing practice, proposing, incorporating changes, and wording the
final version). The moderator will be reponsible for recording all
finalized standards for the ALU, assigning identifiers and submitting
copies to all interested vendors. The initial intent is to give
feedback to the several LISP vendors for inter-vendor compatible
support of various features that have developed too late to be
included in the work of ANSI committee X3J13, such as (but not limited
to) DEFSYSTEM, Foreign Function Interface, and Multiprocessing.
