Following the comment period, the Big-8<br /> Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup<br /> news.announce.conferences.<br /> <br /> This group will be removed on 14 Dec 2006.<br /> <br /> <br /> RATIONALE: remove news.announce.conferences<br /> <br /> There have been no messages approved by the moderator of the newsgroup<br /> since May 1997. However, since that time, there have been articles<br /> cross-posted to other moderated newsgroups, which were approved by the<br /> moderators of those other newsgroups. In addition, there have been<br /> occasional self-approved articles. In recent years, over 95% of the<br /> articles in the group have been approved by the moderator of<br /> comp.parallel.<br /> <br /> Because of the apparent continued interest in posting to the<br /> newsgroup, it may be worthwhile to assign a new moderator to the<br /> newsgroup. It should be noted that the previous moderator not only<br /> approved articles, but maintained a searchable archive of postings on<br /> a web page.
