In addition, the hierarchy had<br /> become the de facto place for discussing other BSD Unix variants<br /> including FreeBSD, NetBSD, and BSD/OS by BSDI.<br /> <br /> By the time of the re-organization, active development of 386BSD had<br /> stopped, and some of the other Unix BSD variants were being targetted<br /> to non-Intel-x86 based platforms. The name of the hierarchy had<br /> become misleading.<br /> <br /> The re-organization created the comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.*,<br /> comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.*, and comp.unix.bsd.netbsd.* branches (an<br /> .announce and .misc discussion group in each branch). The<br /> comp.unix.bsd.openbsd.* branch was added in 1997.<br /> <br /> In addition, comp.os.386bsd.announce was renamed to<br /> comp.unix.386bsd.announce.
