See History for details.<br /> <br /> This group may be a candidate for revival with a new moderator. If there is a<br /> new moderator, the group should avoid announcements about the WWW, and<br /> concentrate on lesser known services such as Gopher, FTP, WAIS, and NNTP. That<br /> the group and its moderator were swamped by WWW site anouncements may have led<br /> to its demise.<br /> <br /> <br /> HISTORY: <br /> <br /> The newsgroup comp.infosystems.announce was created in January 1994. It was<br /> originally proposed as comp.infosystems.gopher.announce, but was changed to a<br /> more general scope as a result of discussion.<br /> <br /> In practice, a large portion of its content of roughly 50 to 100 articles per<br /> month were announcements of various websites.<br /> <br /> During the latter part of its only year of activity,<br /> comp.infosystems.www.announce was proposed. Part of the rationale for the new<br /> group was that the moderator of comp.infosystem.announce was not making timely<br /> approvals; and this was resulting in people posting website announcements to the<br /> unmoderated comp.infosystems.www.* groups.
