The Big-8 Management Board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup <br />
comp.sources.postscript. Voting began on 11 Jul 2006, and ended on 12 Jul 2006.<br />
<br />
This group will be removed on 17 Jul 2006.<br />

RATIONALE: remove comp.sources.postscript<br />
<br />
The last approved message was in March 1997.<br />
<br />
There are other more suitable means of distributing program sources,<br />
so comp.sources.postscript is not a suitable candidate for conversion to an<br />
unmoderated newsgroup.<br />

HISTORY: <br />
<br />
The newsgroup comp.sources.postscript was created in February 1993, with the<br />
first posting in March 1993. The charter (from the CFV) was:<br />

PURPOSE<br />
<br />
A sources group where PostScript programs of generally useful<br />
graphic images and PostScript-related utilities can be posted.<br />
<br />
CONTENT<br />
<br />
Source code written in the PostScript language would be appropriate.<br />
Fonts and programs in other languages that involve PostScript<br />
directly and heavily would be appropriate also.<br />
<br />
Clip Art: Hand-made PostScript programs, converted binaries,<br />
or the machine generated output from a drawing tools,<br />
representing a graphical image meant to be included in<br />
documents. (Other art would usually be fine.)<br />
<br />
Utilities: Hand-made PostScript programs either demonstrating or<br />
facilitating use of the PostScript graphics language.<br />
This would include PostScript generating programs and<br />
other tools not written in PostScript.<br />
<br />
Examples: "How-to" examples would be encouraged.<br />
<br />
Fonts: Fonts that can be used with the PostScript language.<br />
<br />
The focus will be on generally useful programs or art. Specific<br />
information, such as a new weathermap in PostScript posted daily, is<br />
more like a binary than a source, and would not be appropriate.<br />
<br />
Text documents formatted in PostScript would not be appropriate.<br />
<br />
EPS conversion, DSC conformance, and commented code would be<br />
facilitated and encouraged, but not required.<br />
